Chess variant #6

In the beginning the scene is set as usual, with the addition of each player having 6 dice the same colour as their pieces.

All the usual laws of chess apply, with a few caveats.

The dice

Each player has 6 dice in the same colour as their pieces.

Each face of a dice represents a different piece on the board, this is know as the pieces value:

1. Pawn
2. Rook
3. Knight
4. Bishop
5. King
6. Queen

The dice must all be rolled before battle, the results are not hidden information.

Rounds

At the start of each round both players roll all of their dice, they then take alternating turns as in regular chess until the round is finished.

On their turn a player will spend one unspent die to move one of their own pieces.

Once a dice is spent it can not be spent again.

Once both players have spent all of their dice the round ends and another round begins.

Moving pieces

All pieces move as in regular chess.

To move a piece you spend an unspent die of the exact value of the piece you wish to move. A die showing a 1 can move a pawn, a 2 for a Rook, 3 a Knight, and so on.

If you have an unspent die in front if you that would allow a legal chess move then you **must** make that move, even if doing so is non optimal.

If all of your unspent dice leave you unable to make a legal move then you must spend the dice with the highest value but make no move; the only exception to this is **taking pieces**.

If neither player can make a legal move with their unspent dice the round ends and a new one begins.

Taking pieces

The rules for taking pieces are the same as in normal chess.

To move to take a piece you may spend a die with a value equal to or higher than the number of the piece you are moving.

If you have the exact value of the piece on an unspent die then you **must** use that die to take the piece.

If you do not have the exact value you **must** spend the highest value unspent die available above the value of the piece you are moving.
